I am a professional traveler, with the funds and ability to go anywhere, but I lacked the desire to do it alone. I wanted to see things through another’s eyes, discuss the history, beauty and cultures of the places this world has to offer. Then I reconnected with Mary, a relation who also wanted to travel but did not have a traveling partner or funds.
So, here we are. This is how a lifelong, globe-trotting engineer and a career teacher hit the road on their journey to see the world while still young enough to enjoy it.
Joe
I’m Joe. I have spent almost 5 decades traveling the world, missing less than 20 countries, while accumulating over 20 million frequent flyer miles. I spent at least nine months traveling for business each year for my entire adult life. I had always planned on retiring and traveling as a tourist to the places I had been, but had not enjoyed, with my beloved wife of 40 years. As frequently happens, once I approached retirement, my wife took ill, had 2 heart attacks, then total kidney failure, and finally a massive stroke that took her from me.
Mary
I’m Mary. As a single mother, I never had the finances to travel internationally, but I did travel around the United States. I have worked a number of jobs around the country and greatly enjoyed my independence, privacy, the different cultures, and people I have encountered. I also have no desire for any changes to my current lifestyle outside new travel. I have not had the opportunity to travel the world. When Joe asked if I wanted to come along as a tourist on international trips with him, I jumped at the chance.
